Our Commitment
Everything Jojo does is guided by transparency, privacy, and respect for the people we serve. Explore our ethics commitments below, or reach out with questions.
No audio or conversations are stored in the cloud.
Jojo clearly shows when it’s listening and automatically mutes the microphone after a minute of inactivity.
You own your Jojo and choose your trusted contacts.
Jojo Ethics
At Jojo Health, we believe technology for aging in place must be built with dignity first. Jojo is built to promote connection, independence, wellbeing and peace of mind, while protecting the autonomy and dignity of every person it serves.
We designed Jojo in order to support older adults aging in place. Every interaction with Jojo should feel respectful, clear, and human.
The home is a deeply personal space. Jojo is entirely audio-based, and collects data only when necessary. Jojo protects data, and makes privacy controls transparent to users and trusted loved ones. Jojo listens in only when spoken to, or to briefly listen for a response when sparking conversation.
Jojo is not a replacement for family, caregivers, clinicians, emergency services, or medical judgment. When Jojo senses a concern, the next step should involve human care and context.
Users have control over their experience, including who their trusted contacts are, and Jojo should clearly communicate permissions and data usage. All actions should be aligned with a user’s wishes.
Jojo is informed by research in aging, neuroscience, conversation, cognition, and digital health. We are committed to communicating capabilities responsibly, avoiding exaggerated claims, and relying on scientifically validated evidence as a basis for Jojo.
We are responsible for the systems we build. We commit to listening to users, families, caregivers, clinicians, and advisors so Jojo continues to improve in ways that serve real human needs.
AI Ethics
Jojo uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the home to support human care, and never to replace human judgment or dignity. We believe AI tools should be used to support humans.
Jojo uses AI tools to support the humans that use it, including users, caregivers, loved ones, and more. AI tools should bolster human connection, not replace it.
AI should collect and process only what is necessary to provide meaningful support. Sensitive information should be protected with strong safeguards, clear controls, and responsible data practices.
Users and trusted contacts should understand when AI is involved, what it is intended to do, what information it may use, and what its limitations are.
Important concerns should involve human review, context, and judgment. AI-generated insights should help people ask better questions, not make final decisions on their behalf.
Older adults should have meaningful control over AI-enabled features, data sharing, alerts, and trusted contacts. AI should support relationships, not secretly reshape them.
We are accountable for the AI systems we build. Jojo should improve through user feedback, research, expert guidance, and responsible review of real-world performance.
